About the book
In a work of around two hundred watercolours and drawings, with pencil notes recording his impressions and incidental encounters, the artist Robert Sedgley tells the story of his journey around the island of Sri Lanka. An informative text by Dr. K. D. Paranavitana provides an introduction and historical and cultural backgrounds to the six sections of the book; and with a foreword by the artist and writer Ashley Halpé.
The product of many visits over a period of eighteen years, during which he has made numerous friends and got to know well the island and its architecture, its numerous religious sites and the extraordinary beauties of its landscape this book, part sketchbook, part personal diary and travel guide, falls into no easy category.
Robert Sedgley has had seven exhibitions in Sri Lanka and his illustrations are included in the book Drawn to the Galle Fort by Julliet Coombe.
