Ashley Halpé, born in 1933, was educated at Mazenod College, Kandana; St Peter's College Colombo; the University of Ceylon (Perideniya) and at the University of Bristol, UK.
He has been honored with the titles of Kalkeerthi, Vishvaprasadini, Sahithyarathna and Chevalier dans l'order des Palmes Academique.
He has edited and published many journals, books anthologies and reviews, besides translating some of Martin Wickramasinghe's works.
He has worked in the theatre as director, set designer and performer As an artist he is a member of the '43 group and has exhibited in Colombo, Kandy and Perideniya in addition to London, Bristol and at the Sao Paolo Biennale.
He is married to Bridget a reputed musician and music educator and has three children.
